Visiting Japan with kids is amazing - it's safe, you're never stuck waiting for a late train, and everything is cute and tiny. While there are many aspects of a trip to Japan which can be fun for kids (hello, bullet trains!), the following are sure to be a highlight.
teamLab: Started in 2001 in Tokyo, teamLab's collaborative exhibits are a beautiful blend of art, science, and technology. It's one of those rare things that is super fun for kids, and just as fun for adults. teamLab currently has several permanent exhibits around Japan, with seasonal exhibits popping up around the country each year.
Indoor Playgrounds: If you've travelled around Europe or the US with kids, you're not likely to be blown away by Japan's outdoor play spaces. Indoor playgrounds are what Japan does well. Most malls have a floor dedicated to kid's clothing and toys, with an indoor playground designed for babies to elementary aged kiddos. Many of these charge a small fee per 30 minutes of use, but some are free.
Pet Cafes: Designed for city dwellers whose apartments generally don't allow pets, pet cafes are hugely popular in Japan. Cat cafes are the most ubiquitous, but dog cafes, bunny cafes, and micro pig cafes are all well worth a visit. After paying your entrance fee and ordering a drink or snack, just relax at a table and enjoy the animals.
